The shell of St. Patrick

I now tie myself
under the powerful invocation of the Holy Trinity,
faith in the Triune
Creator of Creation.
I now tie myself
the power of the incarnation of Christ and his baptism,
the power of his crucifixion and burial,
the power of his resurrection and his ascension to power of his
venuta per il Giudizio Universale.
Io oggi lego a me stesso
il potere nell’amore dei cherubini,
nell’obbedienza agli angeli,
nella speranza della resurrezione e della ricompensa,
nelle preghiere dei patriarchi,
nelle predizioni dei profeti,
nella predicazione degli Apostoli,
nella fede dei confessori,
nell’innocenza delle sante vergini,
nelle imprese degli uomini santi.
Io oggi lego a me stesso
la forza del Signore perché mi guidi,
il potere di Dio perché mi sostenga,
la saggezza di Dio perché mi istruisca,
l’occhio di Dio perché tenga il suo sguardo sopra di me,
l’orecchio di Dio because I hear,
the word of God that is my speech,
the hand of God to protect me, God's way because
stretched out before me,
the shield of God to let me shelter
The Army of God because they protect me from the snares of demons
,
from the temptations of vices,
the desires of nature,
anyone wants to hurt me,
near and far, alone and in the multitude
.
I called upon all those forces
against every cruel and merciless power that opposes my body and my soul
against incantations of false prophets,
against black laws of paganism,
against false laws of heretics, against
idolatry,
against spells of witches, witchcraft and wizards, against every knowledge that corrupts
body and soul.
Christ shield me today
against poison, against burning, against drowning
against any injury,
so I may receive abundant reward.
Christ be with me, Christ before me,
Christ behind me, Christ in me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ be
to my right, Christ on my left,
Christ is in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ on the lips of all those that speak to me, Christ in every eye
looking at me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
I now tie me to myself

I brought home with me this prayer to return from my trip to Ireland last summer, a trip that I have much to thank. I would like to celebrate as the feast of St. Patrick, as well as with rivers of beer.
